Mary the new Sarah
Hebrews 11:11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.
Son's birth announced: by God to Abraham (Gen 17:15-16); by angel Gabriel to Mary (Lk 1:26-31)
Her son is a covenant promise: Abraham's offspring through Isaac would possess the land of Canaan, kings would come (Gen 17:6-8) and all nations would be blessed (Gen 22:18); from David's offspring Jesus an eternal kingdom would be established (2 Sam 7:12-16 & Lk 1:32-33) fulfilling Abraham's covenant promise of worldwide blessings
Miracle pregnancy: Sarah past childbearing age (Gen 17:17-19); Mary a virgin (Lk 1:34-35)
Blessed by God: nations and kings would come from Sarah (Gen 17:15-16); Mary is full of grace and God is with her (Lk 1:28)
Mother of nations: Sarah to Jacob / Israel and Esau (Gen 3:20); Mary to the new Israel the Church (Jn 19:27; Rev 12:17)
Model of faith: Sarah to conceive Isaac (Gen 21:1-6 & Heb 11:11); Mary humbly submitted to God's plan to conceive Jesus (Lk 1:38)
