Creation

Baptism

  • in the beginning the Spirit of God hovered over the waters (Gen 1:2)

  • the dove from Noah's ark over the flood waters (Gen 8:8-12)

  • the pillar of cloud protected the Israelites during the crossing of the Red Sea (Ex 14:19-25)

  • the dove rested on Jesus during his baptism in the River Jordan (Mt 3:16-17)

  • baptism of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5)

Water brings death

  • the flood waters wiped out all living things not in Noah's ark (Gen 7:21-23)

  • the Egyptians killed whilst crossing the Red Sea (Ex 14:26-28)

brings communion with Jesus's death (Rom 6:3; Col 2:12) and death to sin (Rom 6:1-11)

Water cleanses

  • the flood washed away the wickedness of man (Gen 6:11-13)

  • the Israelites crossed the Red Sea to escape the slavery of Pharaoh (Ex 14:15 - 15:21)

  • the River Jordan washed away Naaman’s leprosy (2 Kg 5:9-10)

washes away the slavery of sin (Acts 22:16)

Water brings new birth (salvific)

  • Noah and the flood in the new creation (Gen 7:17 - 8:19)

  • baby Moses was drawn out of the water and saved by Pharaoh's daughter (Ex 2:3-10)

  • Moses with the Israelites crossed the Red Sea in the exodus from slavery to freedom (Ex 14:15-31)

  • Joshua with the Israelites crossed the River Jordan into the promised land (Josh 3:14-17)

  • Naaman’s flesh was restored to that of a little child after washing in the River Jordan (2 Kg 5:14)

being born again in water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God (Jn 3:5), becoming a child of God (1 Jn 3:1) and a partaker of his divine nature (2 Pet 1:4)


with faith, baptism saves (Mk 16:16, Tit 3:5 & 1 Pet 3:21)
