Father’s name is Jacob (Gen 35:22-24; Mt 1:16)
Visions in dreams: his brothers and parents bowing down to him (Gen 37:5-11); to take Mary as his wife (Mt 1:20-21), for the holy family to flee to Egypt (Mt 2:13) and to return (Mt 2:19)
Upright and chaste: towards his master's wife (Gen 39:7-10); towards Mary (Mt 1:19,25)
Looked after the bread that saved the world: the grain that fed the hungry during the famine (Gen 41:56-57); the Eucharist that saves us from sin (Mt 1:20-25)
Father to the king: to Pharaoh (Gen 45:8); to Jesus (Mt 1:20-25)
Protected his family by bringing them to Egypt: from the famine in land of Canaan (Gen 47:1-12); for the holy family to flee Herod (Mt 2:14-15)
