John the Baptist the new Samuel
Barren mother: God granted Hannah's prayers for a son (1 Sam 1:6-20): God heard Zechariah's prayer for Elizabeth to bear a son (Lk 1:7,13)
Nazarite vow (Num 6:3-8): Hannah's vow that no razor would touch Samuel's head (1 Sam 1:11); John the Baptist would not drink wine or strong drink (Lk 1:15)
Dedicated to God: Hannah's vow for Samuel (1 Sam 1:11,21-28); John the Baptist filled with the Holy Spirit was great before God (Lk 1:15)
Anointed the king after which the Holy Spirit came upon the king: Samuel anointed David with oil (1 Sam 16:13); John the Baptist baptised Jesus the new David with water (Mt 3:13-17)
